After running 9 miles, he got tired, and his manager gave him a lift in his car and drove the next 11 miles. He then ran the last part to the finish line. When people found out, they took away his victory and gave it to Thomas Hicks, who finished the race without cheating. Although, he was given a mix of brandy and a poison called strychnine by his trainers to keep him going. Fred LS was banned from running for a year.

The Chicago White Sox baseball team, who were the favorites to win the World Series, lost against the Cincinnati Reds. One year later, eight members of the team were accused of losing on purpose. This event was called the Black Sox Scandal. The players were paid a lot of money to lose the games.
